Sotheby's Gets Banksy'ed at Contemporary Art Auction in London
This weekend the artistic world known a revolution. The famous English artist, Banksy realised a stroke of genius. One of the most famous artworks, Banksy’s Girl with Balloon, was self destructed during the auction at Sotheby’s London.
When the auctioneer signalled the end of the sale with the hammer, the canvas was meticulously cut into strips by the whole fascinated eyes of the spectators. T
his orchestrated moment, since the creation of the painting, became a turning point in Art History and its market.
Banksy explains “A few years ago, I secretly built a shredder into a painting in case it was ever put up for auction”.
Thereby, this unexpected resolution doubled the artwork’s price.
