White Glove Sale of The Macklowe Collection Totals $676 Million
Sotheby's
Sotheby’s organized in New York on November 15 an auction dedicated to the Macklowe collected, presented as the "biggest modern and contemporary art collection ever put on the market". Arise from the divorce of New-Yorker magnate Harry Macklowe and his wife Linda pronounced in 2018, the collection is renowned as the most expensive in the world and valued at more than $600 million.
Out of 65 pieces, half was sold at auction during the same evening. Highlights of the evening included Giacometti’s Le Nez, which achieved $78.4 million, Andy Warhol's Nine Marilyns, Jackson Pollock’s Number 17, which more than doubled its low estimate to achieve $61.2 million, and Cy Twombly’s monumental Untitled, which sold for $58.9 million. At the end of the evening, the receipts came to $676.1 million. The rest of the collection will be sold at auction in May 2022.
