Around the Princess of Salm, Arts and literature
Sotheby's
From 4-14 October, Sotheby’s presents a private collection from a Parisian private mansion, the Hôtel de Ségur, built in the 18th century and designated historical monument. The 1st floor was restored thanks to the owners, Doctor L. and his wife, who were great collectors and bibliophiles. Both the building and the interior decoration were classified as Monuments Historiques. It used to be occupied by the Princess of Salm-Dyck, a woman of the Enlightenment, whose Salon rivalled that of Madame de Staël. The place was restored by the architect Michel Desbrosses and furnished with objets d’art, paintings, a bust of Princess of Salm by Houdon, a Gobelins tapestry of the Elements after Charles Lebrun, furniture of the Maréchal Soult and books as Doctor L. had a real passion for them. The two marvelous ceilings attributed to Antoine Laurent Thomas Vaudoyer and Jean-Baptiste Lagrenée were entrusted and restored by a representative of the Service des Monuments Historiques.
